House Burn Training – February 14, 2026

Thirteen members of Waverly Fire & Rescue participated in a live house burn training hosted by Southeast Rural Fire & Rescue on February 14. Nearly 70 first responders from rural Lancaster County departments took part in the exercise, with instructors from the State Fire Marshal’s Office overseeing the training.

Members left the station at 6:30 a.m. and returned at 1:00 p.m. Throughout the morning, newer firefighters were rotated through hands-on evolutions inside the controlled burn structure. This provided a safe, supervised environment to experience real fire behavior, heat conditions, and interior firefighting techniques.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., the structure was allowed to burn to the ground as part of the training objectives. Additional personnel operated hose lines to protect a nearby garage and surrounding trees.

Live burn trainings like this provide critical, real-world experience and help ensure our members are prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.
