Aquatics Manager/Parks & Recreation Marketing Assistant 

The City of Waverly is currently accepting applications for a full-time Aquatics Manager / Parks & Recreation Marketing Assistant to join our team!


This unique, year-round position offers two exciting areas of responsibility:

Aquatics (April–September):
Oversee the daily operations of the Aquatic Center, ensure patron safety, and maintain compliance with State Statutes and City policies.

Marketing & Recreation (October–April):
Support Parks & Rec programs through planning, coordination, and social media promotion of City activities and events.


Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of water safety, lifeguarding, and rescue techniques
  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate Aquatic Center staff
  • Experience interviewing and hiring seasonal employees (preferred)
  • Accuracy in handling cash drawers, receipts, and daily reporting
  • Basic pool operations knowledge (maintenance, filtration, water chemistry)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain positive public relations
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with social media
  • Ability to design and support recreational programs and events
  • Comfortable preparing schedules, reviewing timesheets, and managing daily operations
  • Ability to act quickly and appropriately in safety situations (weather, chemical issues, patron safety)

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of public pool or recreation-related experience preferred

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Aquatic Center staff, schedules, training, and daily operations
  • Ensure safety and facility cleanliness
  • Perform daily chemical testing and adjust water balance as needed
  • Work with state and county agencies during inspections
  • Assist with marketing and promotional content for Parks & Recreation programs
  • Help plan and support community recreation programs and events

Wages & Hours

  • Hourly pay based on City pay scale
  • Hours vary based on Aquatic Center season and program needs (typically 8:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.)

Required Certifications

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO), or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification by May 1

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs (and occasionally over 100 lbs)
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
