Each year, the Fire Department hosts an open house and breakfast during fire prevention week in the month of October. The breakfast is always great and there are many activities for children to participate in like taking a ride in the fire truck.
The Fire Department goes to a few of the schools to teach the children about fire prevention and what to do in the event of a fire. They go to both Hamlow Elementary and the Lutheran church.
In 2012 the Waverly Fire Department also help execute a mock car crash at the high school for the schools SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) club. This event not only showed students what the Fire Department, Sheriffs Office, and Life Flight do in the event of a vehicular accident, but also taught students the severity of driving while intoxicated.
The 7th grade class has a career day every year and often times one of the volunteers from the Fire Department will be asked to give a presentation.

The Waverly Fire and Rescue department received a donation from Just Wright Sharpening of Lincoln donating a Wag’n O2 Fur Life pet oxygen kit to the department in January 2018
“Wag’N O2 Fur Life is an educational and public safety company dedicated to providing pet oxygen masks to first responders across North America to help them save animal lives following structural fires,” said Jim Wright.
The company is donating one kit a month to volunteer departments throughout 2018. Waverly was the first on the list.
